My new favorite way to cook cauliflower
@ 9:00 AM
I've been cooking cauliflower more than ever lately. Mostly because it's one of the few vegetables Gray will eat these days. He's become a very picky eater. He enjoys all manner of carbs. But give him something with real nutrients in it, and he'll scrunch up his face and yell "NO!" at the fork in his face.

Ah, the toddler years. He apparently got the memo.

Pasta is ok, but not with anything on it. Thankyou.
Also, bread is a great option for dinner.
And can I have cereal 24/7. THANKS!!

So you can imagine my delight when I see him eating cauliflower on his own, and then asking for more.

The way I cook it is in two steps. First boil in water until soft, but not too soft (prick a stem with a knife). Then roast in a hot oven (about 425) with a bit of olive oil and salt. Turn it over about 20 minutes into the cooking process, and cook for another 20 minutes.

It comes out crispy and sweet, and not at all greasy.
Priming Gray for our Disneyland trip
@ 9:00 AM
We have a trip planned to Disneyland for the end of July, and since we really don't have any Disney stuff around, I've been wondering if Gray will enjoy the trip as much as he could.

The only thing we have that's Disney at home is a little puzzle that Gray enjoys doing. The other day he almost completed this puzzle by himself! It's made for kids who are 3 years and older. Gray will be 3 this August... and he's already doing it with ease. He's always been good with puzzles.

Gray is an artist!

He told his teachers that he made a baby crocodile. Can you see it?!

Pseudo Passover
@ 11:20 AM
We went to Sacramento last weekend, to celebrate a belated Passover. I was on jury duty stand-by all that week, so we couldn't come on the exact day. But we did eat Matzo ball soup, and the kids got to look for the Afikoman. Lemon thought it counted as his first Passover, but we told him that without the torturous reading and songs... it really didn't.

Notice that Lemon (who is ABD) is thoroughly entrenched in Gray's complex books? What do these PhD candidates read in graduate school that this is SO interesting??
Potty on the beach
@ 8:33 AM
A couple of weeks ago we drove to Half Moon Bay to see the beach. I thought I was prepared for the bone chilling wind by wearing a fairly thick sweatshirt, and sweat pants, and mentally psyching myself out for the cold. But once we were standing on the beach it took us all about 30 seconds before we were anxious to get back in the car. There is no fighting that wind.

During those 30 seconds, Gray needed to use the potty.

On the drive home Gray kept asking "where's the beeeeeeach?"

Good times.

An incredibly bad year
@ 12:40 PM
June 2008 - I was laid off after 5+ years with the same company
July 2008 - had a miscarriage
September 2008 - started a new job + found out I had stage 0 breast cancer
October 2008 - had my first mastectomy
November 2008 - had another miscarriage
January 2008 - found out I am a carrier for BRCA2
February 2008 - had my second mastectomy + Liam was laid off

I have had enough.

We're nearing the one year mark for when this crap started happening, and I for one am ready to have good things happen to us.

Flowers for Mama!
@ 9:30 AM
The other day, Gray was at daycare playing outside. After a bit on his own, he ran excitedly towards his teachers with a handful of little tiny red flowers .

When they asked if it's for them, he said "No! They're for Mama!".

They placed all of the flowers into a baggie and labeled it accordingly.

My lovey!!!

I waaaant it!
@ 9:58 AM
That's Gray's mantra lately.
